Golden Cygnet was a racehorse who many racing professionals believed was going to be the next superstar of National Hunt racing after his performance at Cheltenham in March 1978. Described by Irish trainer Vincent O’Brien as the best hurdler I’ve ever seen[citation needed] he suffered a fatal injury in the Scottish Champion Hurdle. His hurdling career had lasted less than five months.
