Ghrelin /ˈɡrɛlɪn/ the hunger hormone is a hormone produced by ghrelin cells lining the stomach and intestine and epsilon cells in the pancreas. It stimulates the appetite when the stomach is stretched. It affects gastric acid secretion and gastrointestinal motility. Its receptor is found on the same cells in the brain as the leptin receptor (the satiety hormone) receptor. These brain cells create the sensation of hunger.
