Geographic tongue (also known as benign migratory glossitis BMG erythema migrans erythema migrans lingualis glossitis areata exfoliativa glossitis areata migrans lingua geographica stomatitis areata migrans wandering rash of the tongue and transitory benign plaques of the tongue) is an inflammatory condition of the mucous membrane of the tongue usually on the dorsal surface. It is a common condition affecting approximately 2-3% of the general population.
