The General People’s Congress (Arabic: المؤتمر الشعبي العام‎; transliterated: Al-Mo’tamar Ash-Sha’abiy Al-‘Aam) is the ruling political party in Yemen. It was founded on 24 August 1982 in Sana’a Yemen by Ali Abdullah Saleh. The party is dominated by a nationalist line and its official ideology is Arab nationalism seeking Arab unity.The number of parliamentary seats belonging the party in 1993 and 1997 terms were 123 and 187 respectively.
