Gabapentin (Neurontin) is a pharmaceutical drug specifically a GABA analog. It was originally developed to treat epilepsy and currently is also used to relieve neuropathic pain. It is recommended as a first line agent for the treatment of neuropathic pain arising from diabetic neuropathy post-herpetic neuralgia and central neuropathic pain.It is also commonly prescribed by doctors for many off-label treatments such as restless leg syndrome insomnia and bipolar disorder.
