Furr’s (also known as Furr’s Cafeteria or Furr’s Family Dining) was a chain of family restaurants in the United States started by Roy Furr. The first location opened in Hobbs New Mexico in 1946. In corporate history it is notable for being a corporation in which an institutional investor TIAA-CREF was able to oust the board of directors.[citation needed] Furr’s was purchased by the K mart Corp.
