Erythropoietin also known as erythropoetin or erthropoyetin (/ɨˌrɪθrɵˈpɔɪ.ɨtɨn/ /ɨˌrɪθrɵˈpɔɪtən/ and /ɨˌriːθrɵ-/) or EPO is a glycoprotein hormone that controls erythropoiesis or red blood cell production. It is a cytokine (protein signaling molecule) for erythrocyte (red blood cell) precursors in the bone marrow.
