Ernest P. Young is an American historian of China and East Asia who focused his research on the Catholic Church in China and on Sino-Japanese relations. He taught at the University of Michigan from 1968 to 2002.Young’s books include Yuan Shih-kai’s Rise to the Presidency (1967) The Presidency of Yuan Shih-k’ai (1977) and Ecclesiastical Colony: China’s Catholic Church and the French Religious Protectorate (forthcoming).Young earned a PhD.
