In medicine enteritis from Greek words enteron (small intestine) and suffix -itis (Inflammation) refers to inflammation of the small intestine. It is most commonly caused by the ingestion of substances contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms. Symptoms include abdominal pain cramping diarrhea dehydration and fever.
