Emanuel von Friedrichsthal (January 12 1809 – March 3 1842) was an Austrian traveler daguerreotypist botanist and amateur archaeologist who traveled through the Balkans and in Central America and documented his findings.Von Friedrichsthal was born on the family estate Urschitz near Brünn in the Austrian Empire (now Brno Czech Republic). He was educated in Vienna at the Theresian Military Academy and entered Austrian government service but soon left to pursue scientific travels.
