In enzymology a diphosphomevalonate decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.33) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reactionATP + (R)-5-diphosphomevalonate ADP + phosphate + isopentenyl diphosphate + CO2Thus the two substrates of this enzyme are ATP and (R)-5-diphosphomevalonate whereas its 4 products are ADP phosphate isopentenyl diphosphate and CO2.This enzyme belongs to the family of lyases specifically the carboxy-lyases which cleave carbon-carbon bonds.
