A dioxirane is a molecule containing a three-membered ring composed of one carbon and two oxygens. Somewhat unstable they are used in organic synthesis as oxidizing reagents. A dioxirane in common use is dimethyldioxirane (DMDO) the dioxirane derived from acetone.
