In enzymology a dihydroneopterin aldolase (EC 4.1.2.25) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-(D-erythro-123-trihydroxypropyl)-78- dihydropteridine 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-hydroxymethyl-78-dihydropteridine + glycolaldehydeThus the substrate (biochemistry) of this enzyme is 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-(D-erythro-123-trihydroxypropyl)-78-dihydropteridine whereas its two products are 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-hydroxymethyl-78-dihydropteridine and glycolaldehyde. This enzyme belongs to the family of lyases specifically the aldehyde-lyases which cleave carbon-carbon bonds.
