Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID)) is a group of approximately 150 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of features (including hypogammaglobulinemia) but which have different underlying causes. Being a primary immunodeficiency due to its weak genetic disposition CVID is strictly primary; rather than acquired for example in the case of HIV.Common variable immunodeficiency is the most commonly encountered primary immunodeficiency.
