Chloroxylenol (4-chloro-35-dimethylphenol) is an antimicrobial chemical compound used to control bacteria algae and fungi in adhesives emulsions paints and wash tanks. It is also commonly used in antibacterial soaps and household antiseptics such as Dettol liquid and cream and ointments such as the now discontinued Medicated Vaseline. Studies have shown a low anti microbial activity which is enhanced by additives.
