The Chicago Mayoral Election of 1987 saw the election of Chicago’s first black mayor Harold Washington. Incumbent Mayor Jane Byrne lost renomination in the Democratic primary in a three-way race between herself Washington and State’s Attorney and future mayor Richard M. Daley.
