The Cheyenne Mountain nuclear bunker is a Cold War hardened installation with NORAD centers and associated computer systems in warm standby such as the Alternate Command Center for the nearby Peterson AFB NORAD-NORTHCOM Command Center. Completed after more than 11 previous US command bunkers (e.g. 1953 Raven Rock 1960 Ft MacArthur DC & 1962 Greenbrier) Cheyenne Mountain was designed for a 30 megaton nuclear explosion within 1.0 nmi (1.2 mi; 1.9 km).
