Chestnut Mountain is a ski resort in Galena Illinois and 20 miles southeast of Dubuque Iowa. It is visible from a 10 mile radius. The ski resort opened in 1959 and features two restaurants a lodge with 119 rooms an indoor pool and hot tub area as well as several other accommodations. It is one of the largest ski resorts in the Midwest and the largest in Illinois with an area of 220 acres and a 420 foot vertical drop.
