Caldarchaeol is a membrane-spanning lipid found in hyperthermophilic archaea. Membranes made up of caldarchaeol are more stable since the hydrophobic chains are linked together allowing the microorganisms to withstand high temperatures. It is also known as dibiphytanyldiglycerol tetraether.
