The Class 700 is a class of electric multiple unit procured by the Department for Transport under the Thameslink rolling stock programme for use on expanded Thameslink Southern & Great Northern franchise in the United Kingdom.In 2011 Siemens was announced as preferred bidder to manufacture the trains – a politically controversial decision as the competing bidder Bombardier Transportation had a train factory in the UK.
