Beta-galactosidase β-galactosidase also called beta-gal or β-gal is a hydrolase enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of β-galactosides into monosaccharides. Substrates of different β-galactosidases include ganglioside GM1 lactosylceramides lactose and various glycoproteins.
