The Batin are a Malay people in Jambi province in the interior of the island of Sumatra Indonesia.[citation needed]There are approximately 72000 Batin living in the interior of south-central Sumatra. They speak a dialect of the Jambi variant of Malay.The Batin are predominately Muslim but have a matrilineal kinship system.
