The Bactrian language (Bactrian: αρια arya) also known as Altbaktrish is a Middle Eastern Iranian language which was spoken in the Central Asian region of Bactria and used as the official language of the Kushan and the Hephthalite empires. Bactrian was closely related to the extinct medieval Middle Iranian languages Sogdian Khwarezmian and Parthian as well as to the modern Eastern Iranian languages Pashto Yidgha and Munji.
