Aspartame (APM; /ˈæspərteɪm/ or /əˈspɑrteɪm/) is an artificial non-saccharide sweetener used as a sugar substitute in some foods and beverages. In the European Union it is codified as E951. Aspartame is a methyl ester of the aspartic acid/phenylalanine dipeptide.
