The Grade III sprint race for three-year-olds is run on dirt over a distance of six furlongs The race currently offers a purse of $150000.The Aristides Stakes is named in honor of the racehorse Aristides who won the first edition of the Kentucky Derby in 1875 on the Churchill Downs track.Prior to 2004 the Aristides was run at 6.5 furlongs.
