Aramaic (Classical Syriac: ܐܪܡܝܐ Aramaya) is a family of languages (traditionally referred to as dialects) belonging to the Semitic family. More specifically it is a part of the Northwest Semitic subfamily which also includes Canaanite languages such as Hebrew and Phoenician.
