The Appalachian Stakes is an American Grade III Thoroughbred horse race run annually in April at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington Kentucky. Open to three-year-old fillies it is contested on turf over a distance of one mile (8 furlongs). First held in 1989 the Appalachian Stakes was named for the Appalachian Mountains which extend into Eastern Kentucky.The race was run at a distance of 1 1/16 miles from 1989 through 1995.
