Anthony Brockholls (sometimes spelled Brockholst) was born in England around 1656.He was Commander-in-Chief (1677-8) and then acting Governor (1681-2) of New York. He was married in Albany on May 2 1681 to Susannah Maria Schrect or Shrik and they had one child Johanna Brockholes who was born an February 15 1700. During Leisler’s Rebellion in New York Brockholls was denounced as a rank Papist and had a price set on his head by the then acting-Governor of that Colony Jacob Leisler.
