Anotia (no ear) describes a rare congenital deformity that involves the complete absence of the auricle the outer projected portion of the ear also referred to as the ‘Pinna’ and narrowing or lack of external auditory meatus. ‘Auditory Meatus’ refers to one of two passages within the ear; one leads to the tympanic membrane (ear drum) of the ear and the other is the passage for blood vessels and nerves. This contrasts with microtia in which a small part of the ear is present.
