Allylglycine is a glycine derivative. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme glutamate decarboxylase. Inhibition of glutamate decarboxylase blocks GABA biosynthesis leading to lower levels of the neurotransmitter. It is used to induce convulsions in animals in scientific studies.[citation needed]
