Alan Jonathan Turner was a long running fictional character in the British soap opera Emmerdale played by Richard Thorp. He debuted on-screen on 18 March 1982 and became the longest continuously featured character in the show’s history remaining in the role until his death on 22 May 2013. The last scenes that Thorp filmed were aired on 4 June 2013 in a special hour-long episode dedicated to him.
