The Adoration of the Shepherds is a 1609 painting by the Italian artist Caravaggio.The painting depicts the nativity event told in the Bible New Testament book of Luke Chapter 2. The shepherds have come to the stable in response to the news of the birth of the Chirst Child. Caravaggio’s depiction of the adoration has been the subject of critical analysis over the four centuries since its creation.The painting was restored for the 400th anniversary of the artists death.
