Acetylcholinesterase also known as AChE or acetylhydrolase is a hydrolase that hydrolyzes the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. AChE is found at mainly neuromuscular junctions and cholinergic brain synapses where its activity serves to terminate synaptic transmission. It belongs to carboxylesterase family of enzymes.
