In enzymology a 8-hydroxyquercetin 8-O-methyltransferase (EC 2.1.1.88) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reactionS-adenosyl-L-methionine + 35783’4′-hexahydroxyflavone S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + 3573’4′-pentahydroxy-8-methoxyflavoneThus the two substrates of this enzyme are S-adenosyl methionine and 35783’4′-hexahydroxyflavone (gossypetin) whereas its two products are S-adenosylhomocysteine and 3573’4′-pentahydroxy-8-methoxyflavone.This enzyme belongs to the family of transferases specifically those transferring one-carbon group methyltransferases.
