56 Aquilae is the Flamsteed designation for a star in the equatorial constellation of Aquila. Its apparent magnitude is 5.76 meaning it would be barely visible to the naked eye under ideal conditions. It was discovered by nineteenth Century Astronomer John Herschel.56 Aquilae is a double star but it does not appear to be a binary star system. It is one of the double stars profiled in Admiral William Henry Smyth’s 1864 work Sidereal Chromatics.
