5144 Achates (1991 XX) is a Jupiter Trojan discovered on December 2 1991 by Shoemaker C. S. at Palomar.Photometric observations of this asteroid during 1996 were used to build a light curve showing a rotation period of 5.949 ± 0.014 hours with a brightness variation of 0.20 ± 0.01 magnitude.Of the 230+ Jupiter trojans with an absolute magnitude (H) brighter than 11 it currently has the most eccentric orbit.
