4989 Joegoldstein (1981 DX1) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on February 28 1981 by Schelte J. Bus at Siding Spring Observatory in the course of the U.K. Schmidt-Caltech Asteroid Survey. It was named by Dr. Bus in honor of Joseph I. Goldstein who was a professor of materials science at the time in honor of Dr. Goldstein’s contributions to the understanding of outer-space materials.
