In enzymology a 4-carboxymuconolactone decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.44) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction2-carboxy-25-dihydro-5-oxofuran-2-acetate 45-dihydro-5-oxofuran-2-acetate + CO2Hence this enzyme has one substrate 2-carboxy-25-dihydro-5-oxofuran-2-acetate and two products 45-dihydro-5-oxofuran-2-acetate and CO2.This enzyme belongs to the family of lyases specifically the carboxy-lyases which cleave carbon-carbon bonds.
