3689 Yeates (1981 JJ2) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on May 5 1981 by C. Shoemaker at Palomar Observatory.Named in honor of Anthony N. Yeates geologist with the Bureau ofMineral Resources of the Commonwealth of Australia. In the course ofregional geologic mapping at the southern edge of the Great Sandy desert ofWestern Australia Yeates led a team of geologists that discovered theVeevers crater.
