2844 Hess (1981 JP) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on May 3 1981 by Bowell E. at the Anderson Mesa Station of Flagstaff (AM). It is named for Frederick Hess Professor of Natural Sciences at the New York State Maritime College in Fort Schuyler The Bronx New York. In addition to teaching he was in charge of the school’s small planetarium and was a frequent long time lecturer at the Hayden Planetarium.====
