2228 Soyuz-Apollo is a main belt asteroid with an orbital period of 2026.0941795 days (5.55 years).The asteroid (a minor planet) was discovered on July 19 1977 and was named after the Apollo-Soyuz space program carried on in 1975. The reversal of the names was not political but to prevent confusion with the asteroid 1862 Apollo.
