It was the ninth edition of the FIFA Club World Cup a FIFA-organised tournament between the champion clubs from each of the six continental confederations as well as the league winner from the host nation. The tournament was hosted by Japan.Corinthians won the title for the second time after defeating Chelsea 1–0 in the final.
