The 2012-13 Michigan State Spartans will attempt to defend their 2012 Big Ten championship. They are coming off of a season in which they exceeded expectations to win the Big Ten regular season championship the Big Ten Tournament and earn a 1 seed before suffering an upset by 4th seed Louisville in the Sweet 16 after starting the season unranked. Head coach Tom Izzo and the Spartans will attempt to reach their 16th straight NCAA tournament appearance third-longest in the nation.
