The 2012-13 season is Cardiff’s 86th in the Football League after joining in 1920. Cardiff are in their ninth consecutive season in the second tier following a third consecutive failure in the play-offs. Cardiff went under a re-branding during the close season meaning the home colours would be changed to red from the traditional blue ending 104 years of the tradition. Cardiff were promoted to the Premier League during the season.
