The 2009 Breeders’ Cup World Championships were the 26th edition of thoroughbred racing’s season ending premier event and took place on November 6 and 7 during the Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia California. American filly Zenyatta won the Classic. Zenyatta made a poor start but fought off Gio Ponti in the straight to win by a length becoming the first female to win the Classic in its 26-year history.
