The Under 23 Gulf Cup of Nations was played for the first time in 2008.The championship was held in Saudi Arabia. Only five nations took part hosts Saudi Arabia and nations Qatar Oman Bahrain and Kuwait. Saudi Arabia became the first champions of this age-grouped event.
