The match was played on 8 August 2004 between 2003–04 FA Premier League champions Arsenal and 2003–04 FA Cup winners Manchester United.Arsenal won the game 3–1; Gilberto opened the scoring in the 50th minute before Alan Smith equalised five minutes later.
