The 2000–01 season saw Dynamo Dresden playing in the fourth tier NOFV-Oberliga Süd. The clear aim was to get promoted back to the Regionalliga and after a strong finish to the previous season optimism was high – a campaign was started with the slogan wir kommen wieder (we’re coming back). However competition was tough with several other teams having come down from the Regionalliga and Dynamo found themselves third in a three-way title race with 1. FC Magdeburg and VfB Leipzig.
