In enzymology a 2-oxoglutarate decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.71) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction2-oxoglutarate succinate semialdehyde + CO2Hence this enzyme has one substrate 2-oxoglutarate and two products succinate semialdehyde and CO2.This enzyme belongs to the family of lyases specifically the carboxy-lyases which cleave carbon-carbon bonds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is 2-oxoglutarate carboxy-lyase (succinate-semialdehyde-forming).
