The match for the 7th Dutch Supercup (Johan Cruijff-schaal I) was held on 18 August 1996 in the Amsterdam ArenA in Amsterdam. This was the first Supercup game to be played under the title Johan Cruijff-schaal (Dutch: Johan Cruijff Shield) with former editions being played under the name Dutch Supercup (Dutch: ‘Nederlandse Supercup’). This was also the first Supercup game to be held in the Amsterdam ArenA.
